Company Profile

City of Stirling

The City of Stirling is the largest local government authority in Western Australia (by population) and provides state of the art services and facilities for approximately 202,000 residents; approximately 87,000 rateable properties.

The City of Stirling has a rich and diverse natural and physical landscape covering a total land area of approximately 109 square kilometres. Stirling lies approximately 8 kilometres north of the Perth CBD and stretches across 30 suburbs from Railway Parade, Mount Lawley in the East, to the Indian Ocean suburbs of Scarborough, Trigg, North Beach and Waterman in the West. It is this glorious 6 kilometre coastline of which Stirling is perhaps best known for; including the popular summer playgrounds and top surf-spots Scarborough and Trigg.

Stirling also has approximately 1342 hectares of open space for recreation and conservation reserves. There are over 400 parks and currently 50 active reserves.

Stirling has key industrial areas in Balcatta, Herdsman and Osborne Park. Throughout the City there are approximately 16,550 small businesses, representing 11% of the State’s small business and a significant employment opportunity. All these areas are well serviced by major arterial roads with links to the Mitchell Freeway providing easy access to the Perth CBD, Perth Airport and Fremantle as well as the main highways leading north, south and east of the State.

The northern suburban rail service from Perth, which runs in the centre of the freeway, passes through the City with stations at Glendalough (servicing Osborne Park and Scarborough Beach) and Stirling (for the regional centre). The Warwick station is on the northern boarder of the City’s boundary. The rail service links to an efficient suburban bus network.

The City is a multicultural community with 32% of the population born overseas and over 21% speaking a language other than English. About 8% are from the United Kingdom and 3% from Italy, 2.4% from New Zealand, 1.6% from Vietnam and 1.5% from South Africa.

The City of Stirling certainly is the City of Choice when it comes to providing a diverse range of services and facilities for all residents. The City runs a number of Recreation Centres, including the Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre – a world-class facility in Dianella where you will find a choice of six heated pools (including an Olympic size pool), function centre and gymnasium. The City has six libraries to choose from located in Dianella, Inglewood, Karrinyup, Mirrabooka, Osborne and Scarborough. There are also 72 schools and colleges, one University and two technical education colleges – proving the City of Stirling really is the City of Choice when it comes to education.

And the choices don’t end there! The City is well serviced by regional shopping centres at Karrinyup, Mirrabooka and Innaloo. These centres serve both the local and wider community in the Perth northern corridor. The City has a wide choice of residential areas, from the coastal suburbs of Watermans Bay, North Beach, Trigg and Scarborough through to the beautiful heritage areas of Mt Lawley and Inglewood.

Stirling also provides Child Health Centres, Community Recreation Centres for Seniors, the Stirling Women’s Refuge and hosts a wide range of community events and competitions throughout the year; including the Stirling Youth Festival, the annual Art Awards and the biennial Photographic Competition.

Within Stirling you will find a vibrant community and a Council renowned not only for its beautiful parks, reserves and coastline, but also for its economic, environmental and community development initiatives.
