Manningham City Council

Manningham is located 12 km from Melbourne at the gateway to the Yarra Valley, bringing a unique combination of both cosmopolitan city and country lifestyles together over a total land area of 114 square kilometres.

Manningham includes the suburbs of Bulleen, Doncaster, Doncaster East, Donvale, Nunawading (part), Park Orchards, Ringwood North (part), Templestowe, Templestowe Lower, Warrandyte, Warrandyte South and Wonga Park.

Manningham is made up of a diverse community, with many of its residents born overseas from places including China, Italy and Greece, which brings a wealth of languages, music, food and cultural traditions to the area.

Manningham includes a vibrant centre – Doncaster Hill and a host of smaller village neighbourhoods and activity centres along with a mix of country towns and natural environments – from bushlands with significant native flora and fauna, to the meandering Yarra River, orchards, vineyards and farms.

The democratically elected Council comprises nine Councillors including the Mayor. The Council is underpinned by formal governance in line with the Local Government Act 1989, which outlines the legal status, purposes, objectives, functions, powers and duties of Councillors. 

Manningham City Council provides more than 100 services to residents, ratepayers, businesses and community groups across the municipality.

Council is responsible for the strategic direction for the municipality. Policies and procedures are developed, and certain responsibilities are delegated to the Chief Executive and four Directors, which form the Executive Management Team. Each Director heads specific areas of responsibility including: Community Service, Planning and Environment, Assets and Engineering, and Corporate Services. 

Councillors and all employees are guided by Council's Code of Best Practice, which aims to ensure that Manningham City Council carries out its responsibilities in the best interests of the community in an efficient and effective manner.

Aside from Council activities, the city itself boasts a range of services and facilities – from commercial centres, shopping, entertainment and dining precincts, to schools, education and lifelong learning programs, medical and healthcare providers, and a range of recreational opportunities - to cater for all ages and needs.

Manningham comprises a range of housing stock, from modern inner city town house developments, to suburban brick housing with larger blocks and countryside rural allotments and farms.

Manningham has one of the largest networks of open space in metropolitan Melbourne covering approximately 17% of the municipality. More than 300 parks are located in Manningham, including regional recreation parks, sporting reserves, natural areas and neighbourhood parks. Manningham has an extensive network of bicycle paths, including 45 kilometres of off-road bike paths.

Manningham’s unique natural environment provides a sanctuary to 56 threatened animal species and is home to 22% of Victoria’s known plants, including 11 species of State significance and four species of national significance.

Manningham has many community groups and volunteer associations, which also contribute to weaving the vibrant fabric that makes Manningham a great place to enjoy and embrace the true sense of ‘community’ life.
